Travelling from Shimla (where we may reminisce British era and architecture on a Heritage Walk and later, revel in in the pleasant sights and cool breeze on the Ridge) via Tattapani, famous for hot sulphur springs on the side of Satluj River, first sighted just before Basantpur.

Arriving by evening at Chindi, Mandi with its hillsides covered with thick forests, acres filled with apple orchards, small picturesque hamlets and remarkable views in all directions combine to make this quaint little hill town at 1,825 m and the area around it, amongst the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh. The area is still off the beaten track and yet, has good facilities in terms of roads, small markets and accommodation.

Alternately called ‘Dev Bhoomi’ or Land of the Gods, enroute are historical wood carved temples with their mystical and mythical tales, antique stone deities and even a 200 gram wheat grain!

One can visit famous Mahunag Temple and Chindi Mata Temple at Chindi, Mamleshwar Mahadev Temple founded by Lord Parashurama in ‘Dvapara Yuga’ and visited by Pandavas in exile and Kamaksha Devi Temple at Karsog and, Shikari Devi Temple at Janjehli.
The wide Karsog Valley below Chindi and has good excursion spots. Apple orchards, dense forests and two rivulets add their attraction to the area.
