Dharamshala can be approached by air from Delhi. The nearest airport is at Gaggal, 13 km away. Pathankot, the nearest broad gauge railway station is 85 km away and the toy train station is 17 km at Kangra.
McLeod Ganj is a suburb of Dharamshala also known as “Little Lhasa” or “Dhasa” because of its large population of Tibetans. The Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered in McLeod Ganj.
Bhagsu Nag Temple and Waterfall, Namgyal Monastery, Dal lake, Kangra Art Museum, War Memorial and Cricket Stadium are worth a visit.
Triund is the crown jewel of Dharamshala, situated in the laps of Dhauladhar mountains; it has the perfect view of the Dhauladhar mountains on one side and Kangra valley on the other. Trek is fairly easy for the first five kilometers but the last one kilometer may require a bit of toil, the last one kilometer is popularly known as the “22 curves” as it has 22 tiring curves before you finally reach Triund. An hour’s drive to Palampur, one can visit Kangra Tea Gardens where black and green tea have been grown since 1880’s. Another 30 kms will take us to Bir Billing, a popular site for paragliding, Buddhist monasteries, Stupa, ecotourism and meditation.
